Harmilan Bains started her career during her late teens in 2015. She usually takes part in 800m and 1500m running events. She first participated in 1500m on 22 November 2015 & secured 2nd position by completing the race in four minutes 35 seconds. Three days later, she appeared in 800m & secured 2nd place as well. The next year, she made her first international appearance at Asian Junior Athletics Championships. Over there, she got placed 2nd position by finishing the race in 4 minutes 33 seconds.
Though she was securing top positions, she never secured 1st position until 15 January 2017. She finished that 1500m race within 4 minutes 33 seconds. She continued participating in all major events throughout all these years. However, she came into the limelight after breaking a 19-year-old record which was set by Sunita Rani. Earlier, Sunitha completed the 1500m in 4:06:03 in the 2002 Busan Asian Games while Harmilan took 4:05:39 at National Open Athletics 2021.
