Early life

Alica Megan Schmidt was born on 8 November 1998 in Worms, Germany. Her family later settled in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, and she began her athletics training at MTV Ingolstadt. She studied at Fresenius University of Applied Sciences. She is 175 centimetres tall.

Career

Schmidt started out in the 200, 400 and 800 metre events, and in 2018 she also began running the 400 metre hurdles. In 2017 she finished second in the 200 metres at the German under-20 championships and second in the 400 metres at the same meeting.

Her first international medal came at the 2017 European Athletics U20 Championships, where she ran in the German 4x400 metre relay team with Vanessa Aniteye, Meike Gerlach and Corinna Schwab. The quartet took silver in a time faster than the previous age-group world record, although the Ukrainian team set a new mark ahead of them. It was the first medal at those championships for an Ingolstadt athlete since 1999. In the heats of the individual 400 metres she ran a personal best of 54.23 seconds, but she was withdrawn from the final so that she could concentrate on the relay.

In October 2017 she moved to Brandenburg and began training at SC Potsdam. Ahead of the 2019 season she joined SCC Berlin. At the 2019 European Athletics U23 Championships she won bronze in the 4x400 metre relay. At the 2019 German championships she placed third in the under-23 400 metres, and she was part of the SCC Berlin relay team that took second place.

Schmidt was appointed fitness coach of the Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund for the 2020-21 season. In 2021 she was in the German squad for the 4x400 metre relay at the European Athletics Indoor Championships. She was also selected for the German relay squad for the delayed Tokyo Olympics, where she travelled as a substitute for the mixed relay and did not run.

In 2022 she finished second in the 400 metres at the German indoor championships, behind Corinna Schwab, and chose to skip the World Athletics Indoor Championships in order to focus on the outdoor season. She was part of the German team that placed fifth in the 4x400 metre relay final at the 2022 European Athletics Championships.

In June 2024 she was named to the German mixed 4x400 metre relay squad for the Paris Olympics. Her selection followed the team's strong performance at the World Athletics Relays in Nassau, in the Bahamas, which helped the mixed relay qualify for the Games. Late in that season she ran the 600 metres at the ISTAF meeting in Berlin and recorded a personal best of 1:24.88.

From the 2025 season she moved up from the 400 metres to the 800 metres. In her first season at the distance she set an outdoor best of 2:03.21 at a meeting in Lucerne, Switzerland, although she was eliminated in the heats of the national championships. In February 2026 she ran an indoor best of 2:03.99 at the Meeting Metz Moselle Athlelor. She went out in the heats at both the German indoor and outdoor championships in 2026. Her best time over 400 metres is 52.07 seconds.
