Early life

Álvaro Tauchert Soler was born on 9 January 1991 in Sant Cugat del Vallès, near Barcelona. His father is German and his mother is of Spanish and Belgian background, so he grew up with several languages around him. When he was ten the family moved to Japan, and he lived there until he was seventeen. He started piano lessons early during those years. He went to the German School of Barcelona, and after returning to Spain he studied industrial design at the Elisava design school.

Career

Back in Barcelona, Soler founded a band called Urban Lights in 2010 with his brother and a few friends. Their sound mixed British pop, indie pop and electronic elements, and they built a local audience, won a university music competition and put out some self-produced recordings. In 2013 the group took part in the Spanish talent show ¡Tú sí que vales! and reached the last eight. A year later Soler left the band to work as a solo artist and settled in Berlin.

His first solo single, "El mismo sol", came out on 24 April 2015. He wrote it together with Yasmin Gabriel, Ali Zuckowski, Simon Triebel and John Speaks of the band Juli, and Triebel produced it. The song reached number one on the Italian singles chart, where it earned a double platinum certification, and it also topped the Swiss chart. An English and Spanish version with Jennifer Lopez was recorded for release in the United States, the United Kingdom and other markets. His debut album, Eterno agosto, followed on 23 June 2015 on Universal Music.

"Sofia", released in 2016, became his next major hit. It went to number one in Poland, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Belgium and Switzerland, and it remains the most-watched video on his YouTube channel. In 2016 he was a judge on the tenth series of the Italian X Factor, and on 6 October of that year he performed at the Latin American Music Awards with the Mexican singer and actress Lucero.

He recorded "Libre" in versions with Paty Cantú from Mexico, Monika Lewczuk from Poland and Emma Marrone from Italy. In 2017 he and the group Morat released "Yo contigo, tú conmigo (The Gong Gong Song)", written for the film Despicable Me 3, with a video that appeared on 16 June.

His second album, Mar de colores, arrived in 2018 and included the singles "La cintura", "Ella" and "La même". "La cintura" became a hit across Europe. A run of singles followed, among them "Loca" and "La libertad" in 2019. The third album, Magia, came out in 2021 and its singles included "Mañana", "Si te vas" and "Non dire una parola". In 2022 he released "Sólo para ti" and "A contracorriente". His fourth studio album, El camino, was released in 2025. In all he has put out four studio albums.
