Amit Tandon Indian Actor Known for Dill Mill Gayye

Amit Tandon is an Indian actor, singer and television host, born on 11 April 1979 in New York City. He first drew national attention as a contestant on the opening season of the singing competition Indian Idol, and he later built a long career in Hindi-language television. His best-known role is Dr. Abhimanyu Modi in the medical drama Dill Mill Gayye.

Early life

Tandon was born in New York City. He travelled to India to enter Indian Idol, which was the first reality singing contest of its kind in the country. The programme gave him his entry into the Indian entertainment industry, and he arrived there as a singer rather than as an actor.

Career

Tandon reached the final round of the first season of Indian Idol. He was the second finalist to leave the contest, with his elimination coming on 31 December 2004. He sang on the show's official album and on Yaaron, a second album that also featured the finalists.

His move into scripted television followed soon afterwards. His first acting part was Prithvi Bose in Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai, a supporting character who gradually turns into an antagonist and leaves the story before the show ends. He was then cast in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi as Manthan, the son of the characters Karan and Tanya; that serial last aired on 6 November 2008. His next project was the Zee TV drama Saath Saath Banayenge Ek Aashiyaan, where he played Abhay Singh, a non-resident Indian.

Alongside these roles he kept returning to reality television. He took part in Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar and Zara Nachke Dikha, performed at the Indian Telly Awards ceremony in 2009 with Sara Khan, and appeared in an episode of the comedy show Laughter Ke Phatke. From 15 January 2011 he presented the fourth season of the reality programme Dadagiri on UTV Bindass.

In Dill Mill Gayye he played Dr. Abhimanyu Modi, a doctor whose storyline runs opposite the character Nikita Malhotra, played by Shweta Gulati. This is the title most closely linked with him in reference listings. He also appeared as Jimmy and Rahul in Jeannie Aur Juju. In 2015 he took the part of Subramaniam "Subbu" Chandran in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, and in 2017 he played Abhishek Khurana in Kasam Tere Pyaar Ki.

Music remained part of his work after the television roles began. In 2008 he released his debut solo album, Tanha - Lonely at Heart, on the Tips label.

Public roles

Tandon is active on social media. His Instagram account had more than two million followers when last counted in October 2026, and he also keeps a channel on YouTube. His hosting work on Dadagiri and his appearances as a performer on several reality programmes mean that he is known to Indian audiences both as an actor and as an on-screen presenter and singer.

Personal life

Tandon married Ruby Tandon, a dermatologist, in 2007.
