Betsy Russian Singer Born 2013 in Saint Petersburg

Early life

Betsy, born Svetlana Mikhaylovna Chertischeva, is a Russian singer, rapper and YouTuber. She was born on 27 January 2013 in Saint Petersburg and is also known under the name Betsy Girl. Her father is the composer Mikhail Chertishchev, who writes all of her songs.

Career

Betsy opened her first video blog at the age of five, with her parents helping to run it. Her first video showed her eating fruit and playing with a soft toy. The channel grew into the platform on which most of her audience now sits. As of September 2025 it had about 3.2 million subscribers.

Her music reached a larger public in 2021, when "Simple Dimple Pop It Squish", a song recorded with the twins M&A, spread on TikTok. Users attached the audio to clips about stress-relief toys. Other tracks of hers that circulated on social media include "Я тебе поставлю лайк", which translates as "I'll Give You a Like", and "Pump It Up".

In spring 2024 she put out "Я не пон", a title that can be rendered as "I Didn't Understand". The lyrics respond to critical messages she had received online. Speaking to Bridge TV, she described it as a reply to people who attack her, saying that she does not follow what they are saying and that her own opinion matters more to her than theirs. Her father added that the family intends to keep making the music they like despite the hostility, and that the songs get a response, both positive and negative. A music video was released in July, directed by Rodion Chistyakov. It features three adults who dislike children: a middle-aged man on a sofa, a hipster and a schoolteacher. Her younger sister, Suzy, appears in it, and the choreography includes a dance Betsy devised herself.

In October 2024 she released the single "Sigma Boy" with the television personality Maria Iankovskaia. The song spread quickly on platforms such as TikTok, appeared on the Spotify, YouTube, Shazam and iTunes charts, and went to the top of Spotify's Global Viral Hits playlist. It is the best-known work associated with her.

Recognition

In 2025 Betsy was nominated for the Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
