Devon Larratt Canadian Professional Wrestler Born in 1975

Devon Larratt was born on 24 April 1975 in Victoria, British Columbia. He is a Canadian arm wrestler and online content creator who served for many years in the Canadian Armed Forces. He has competed in several weight classes over more than two decades.

Early life

Larratt was born in Victoria to a German-born mother and learned German as a child. He took up arm wrestling in his early teens, and his first opponent was his grandmother, a farm worker who liked to say she was the best arm-wrestling woman in Alberta. As a teenager he went on to compete in the oil fields of western Canada. He also practised judo while growing up.

Military service

At 21 he joined the Canadian Armed Forces as a reservist with the Princess of Wales' Own Regiment. He later moved to the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, with which he served a tour in Bosnia, and in 1998 transferred to the Royal Canadian Regiment. There he prepared for selection into Joint Task Force 2, the special operations unit. He was accepted on his second attempt and began service with the unit on 11 September 2001. He remained for sixteen and a half years, retired in 2016 with the rank of master corporal, and was deployed to Afghanistan seven times.

Career

Larratt's competitive record starts in 1999, when he won Ontario provincial titles and both the left- and right-hand 100 kg categories at the Canadian national championships. That year he entered his first international event, the World Armwrestling Federation championships in Japan, and finished third in both hands. Through the early 2000s he kept winning provincial and regional titles in Ontario.

His international reputation grew with Arm Wars, which he joined in 2007. In September 2008 he beat Brzenk 6-0 in a supermatch, the first time anyone had defeated him in that format in about 25 years, and he was subsequently regarded as the top right-handed arm wrestler in the world. In 2010 victories over Travis Bagent, Tim Bresnan and Don Underwood placed him at number one in both hands. After Arm Wars paused its events, he competed in the Ultimate Armwrestling League, Major League Armwrestling and the Professional Armwrestling League, winning a left-hand world title in 2012.

In 2014 he joined the World Armwrestling League. He won its left-hand heavyweight title in 2015 and added the right-hand title in 2016, then defended both in 2017 against Matt Mask. The following year he lost the right-hand championship to Michael Todd and was beaten by Denis Cyplenkov in a left-hand supermatch, after which he devoted himself to additional strength training.

On 28 May 2021 he faced Todd again at King of the Table in Dubai and won 6-0. In December of that year, at the second King of the Table event, he beat Brzenk 4-0 for the right-hand heavyweight title. The Legacy Hammer, a symbolic trophy created for the league's champions, was handed to him after the Todd match; he later passed it to Levan Saginashvili, who beat him 6-0 at King of the Table 4 in June 2022.

In November 2022 he made his first East vs West appearance, dropped a weight class and defeated the heavyweight champion Evgeny Prudnik 3-0. In 2023 he returned to the super-heavyweight division. In August he won the East vs West super-heavyweight title with a 5-0 victory over Ermes Gasparini, becoming at 48 the oldest super-heavyweight champion in the sport's history. Later that year he beat Cyplenkov 5-0 in a rematch that many in the sport had been awaiting, and in December he defeated Georgi Tsvetkov 6-0 at King of the Table 9. In April 2024 Saginashvili took the East vs West title from him, winning their rematch 4-0. He closed 2024 with wins over Chance Shaw, Leonidas Arkona and Oleg Petrenko.

Boxing and online work

In 2021 Larratt, who had never boxed, accepted an exhibition fight against the strongman Hafthor Julius Bjornsson, preparing at Tristar Gym. The bout took place in Dubai on 18 September and ended with a technical knockout in the first round in favour of Bjornsson.

Larratt is known for a flexible technique and exceptional stamina. He tends to blunt an opponent's first surge, hold a strong position and wear the other person down. He publishes videos on YouTube, often with other strength athletes such as the four-time World's Strongest Man Brian Shaw, and his jokes about eating pancakes before big matches became a running theme among fans. He also owns Armbet, a mobile app for arm-wrestling matchmaking and betting. As of 2026 he has more than 1.5 million followers on Instagram.
