Biography
Early life
Florent Mothe, a French singer, songwriter, musician and actor, was born on 13 May 1981 in Argenteuil, in the Val-d'Oise department. He started studying music at the age of seven at a school in Montigny-lès-Cormeilles. Over the following years he learned to play the flute, piano, bass, synthesizer and guitar, although singing remained his main interest from the start.
Career
In 1996 he formed his first band, Lost Smile. The group toured for around six years, travelling between France and Germany. During the same period he took the part of the savant in the musical l'Alphoméga, appearing on the recording and in one performance of the show. He later sang at the Hard Rock Cafe with a second group, Ouija.
After that he moved to Toronto, where he began working as a solo artist. He played short sets in Canadian bars and also performed at the Mod Club in New York. Recordings and performances that he had posted on his Myspace page caught the attention of Dove Attia and Albert Cohen, the producers of the musical Mozart, l'opéra rock. They invited him to audition, and he was chosen to play the composer Antonio Salieri.
From this role came several singles recorded with the cast, among them Vivre à en crever, Le bien qui fait mal and L'Assasymphonie, which was released in 2009. His records are listed under pop music, with Warner Music Group named as his label, and the western concert flute appears among the instruments recorded for him.
His first solo album, Rock in Chair, came out in April 2013, with Je ne sais pas as its first single. In 2015 he returned to Dove Attia's productions, playing King Arthur in the new musical La Légende du roi Arthur. His co-stars in that show included Charlie Boisseau, Zaho, Camille Lou and Fabien Incardona, and the cast also recorded singles together.
Recognition
At the 2010 NRJ Music Awards, Mothe was named francophone revelation of the year, the award listed in his record as the NRJ Music Award de la révélation francophone de l'année. The same ceremony also honoured work connected with his Mozart role: L'Assasymphonie was recognised as the francophone song of the year for 2009, and he shared a second award as a member of the cast of Mozart, l'opéra rock, in the francophone duo or group of the year category.
His stage credits therefore include the savant in l'Alphoméga, Antonio Salieri in Mozart, l'opéra rock and King Arthur in La Légende du roi Arthur. Alongside these roles he performed with the bands Lost Smile and Ouija, and he later released his own solo album.
