Early life

Gabry Ponte was born Gabriele Ponte on 20 April 1973 in Turin, in northern Italy. He is an Italian DJ, producer and musician whose work belongs mostly to the dance and eurodance traditions. He first became known abroad as a founding member of the group Eiffel 65.

Career

Ponte formed Eiffel 65 in 1997 together with Jeffrey Jey and Maurizio Lobina. The trio's debut single, "Blue (Da Ba Dee)", appeared the following year and reached the top of charts around the world, with sales above eight million copies. Their first album, Europop, added roughly four million more.

While the group was active, Ponte also built a name as a producer. In 2001 he worked on "Geordie", an Italian-language cover of a Fabrizio De André song, sung by Stefania Piovesan. It earned a gold record for passing 25,000 copies sold. "Got to Get" followed in 2001, "Time to Rock" in 2002 and "La danza delle streghe" in 2003. He also remixed songs by other acts, among them Gianni Togni's "Giulia" and O-Zone's "Dragostea Din Tei". His own releases from this period include the single "The Man in the Moon" (2003) and the album Dottor. Jekyll & Mister DJ (2004), along with the single "Figli di Pitagora" (2004).

In 2005 Ponte announced that he would leave Eiffel 65 and concentrate on solo work. A year later he founded the record label Dance and Love, which he still manages and which operates as an independent Italian dance label. Under that banner he compiled the Dance and Love Selection series, with volumes one to three issued in 2010 and a fourth in 2011. His Gabry2o albums appeared in 2008 and 2009.

The 2010s brought a wider international footprint. In January 2012 he produced "Tacata'" for the dance trio Tacabro. That same year he released "Beat on My Drum", featuring Pitbull and Sophia del Carmen, which peaked at number 11 on the US Hot Dance Club Songs chart. The compilations Gabry Ponte - Selection (2013) and Gabry Ponte Selection 2K14 (2014) followed, and in 2014 his single "Buonanotte Giorno" became a summer hit in Italy, reaching the national top ten. "Che ne sanno i 2000" came out in 2016.

From 2020 onward he released a steady run of collaborations. "Déjà Vu" appeared in 2020. In 2021 came "Thunder", made with LUM!X and Prezioso, and "Can't Get Over You" with Aloe Blacc. In 2022 he released "Call Me" with Timmy Trumpet and R3HAB, "The Finger" with Georgia Ku, and "We Could Be Together" with LUM!X and Daddy DJ, which reached gold status in Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and France. He also contributed official remixes for Sigala, Sam Feldt and David Guetta.

Ponte has taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest twice in different roles. In 2022 he co-wrote and produced "Halo", the song Austria entered, performed by Lumix and Pia Maria. In 2025 he represented San Marino himself with "Tutta l'Italia", a song first written as a theme for that year's Sanremo Music Festival. He performed it in the first semi-final on 13 May 2025 and advanced to the grand final, becoming the fourth San Marino entrant to do so. In the final he placed 26th with 27 points.

Live work has also been a large part of his schedule. In 2023 he played 90 shows in 11 countries for more than 700,000 people. On 6 December 2023 he released "Losing You - Spotify Singles", a song made for Spotify Wrapped and tied to the 40th anniversary of the Police track "Every Breath You Take". His recent singles include "Brokenhearted" (2025) and "DNA" and "Tik Tak" (both 2026). He was also the DJ at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Recognition

With Eiffel 65, Ponte won a European Music Award in 2000 in the category of best Italian artist in the world. His production of "Geordie" received a gold record in Italy. In 2014 he entered the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs list at number 61, the highest placing for an Italian DJ that year.
