Synopsis
Avatar is a 2009 science fiction adventure directed by James Cameron. It is set in the year 2154 and mostly takes place on Pandora, a lush moon orbiting a distant star.
A mining company from Earth is extracting a valuable mineral there, and it shares the moon with the Na'vi, a tall blue-skinned people who live in close bond with the forest. To study this world and talk with its inhabitants, scientists operate bodies grown from human and Na'vi DNA, known as avatars.
Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, is a former Marine who uses a wheelchair. He is brought to Pandora to take over an avatar program after a family loss, even though he has none of the scientific background the role expects. Inside his new body he can walk again, and he soon becomes separated from his team in the wilderness. He is found by Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldana, a Na'vi woman who reluctantly brings him to her clan so he can learn their ways. Meanwhile, Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) of the company's security force gives Jake a secret task, and Parker Selfridge (Giovanni Ribisi) pushes for faster results. Jake finds himself caught between two worlds. Joel David Moore and Michelle Rodriguez also appear.
