Synopsis

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is a 2006 fantasy swashbuckler directed by Gore Verbinski. It is the second film in the series and takes place roughly a year after The Curse of the Black Pearl, with a mix of comedy, sword fights and sea-going adventure.

The story starts on what should be a happy day. Will Turner, played by Orlando Bloom, and Elizabeth Swann, played by Keira Knightley, are about to be married when the ceremony is interrupted by Lord Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander) of the East India Trading Company. He arrives with warrants and an offer: he is willing to give them their freedom if Will can bring him the compass belonging to Captain Jack Sparrow. Beckett has a bigger goal in mind, and the compass is a step toward it.

Jack, meanwhile, has troubles of his own. Years earlier he made a bargain with Davy Jones, the ghostly captain of the Flying Dutchman, played by Bill Nighy. Now the debt has come due, and a monstrous creature of the deep is on his trail. Will's long-lost father, Bill Turner (Stellan Skarsgard), is bound up in the same story. Will sets out to find Jack, and the search draws in the Black Pearl's crew, including Pintel and Ragetti. The hunt for a mysterious chest becomes a race in which every party wants something different from it.
