Synopsis

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is a 2003 swashbuckling fantasy adventure with comedy, directed by Gore Verbinski. It is set in the early eighteenth century in the Caribbean.

The story starts in the port of Port Royal, Jamaica, where Will Turner, played by Orlando Bloom, works as a blacksmith. Years earlier, as a boy, he was rescued from a shipwreck by the daughter of the colony's governor, Elizabeth Swann, played by Keira Knightley. She kept a gold medallion he wore, and that small piece of treasure turns out to matter a great deal.

When a fearsome pirate ship called the Black Pearl raids the town in search of the medallion, Elizabeth is taken away by its crew. Their captain is Hector Barbossa, played by Geoffrey Rush, and his men are bound by an old curse tied to stolen gold. Will decides to go after her and has to depend on an unreliable ally, the eccentric pirate Jack Sparrow, who has recently arrived in town. The pursuit leads them out to sea, into dangerous company and toward a hidden island.
