Synopsis
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is a 2001 high fantasy adventure film directed by Peter Jackson. It is the first chapter of a larger journey across the invented lands of Middle-earth.
The story begins in the peaceful Shire, home of the small, fond-of-comfort hobbits. Frodo Baggins, played by Elijah Wood, inherits a plain-looking ring from a relative. The wizard Gandalf, played by Ian McKellen, grows uneasy and investigates, and what he learns shows that the ring is an object of enormous and dangerous power that a dark lord is searching for. It cannot stay in the Shire, and it must be taken far away.
Frodo sets out with his loyal friend Samwise Gamgee, played by Sean Astin, and soon encounters others on the road, including the ranger Aragorn, played by Viggo Mortensen. Pursuers close in, and the travellers pass through places such as the elven realm tied to Arwen, played by Liv Tyler, and Galadriel, played by Cate Blanchett. A company of different peoples, among them the dwarf Gimli, played by John Rhys-Davies, gathers to decide how the ring's burden should be carried.
