Synopsis

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is a 2002 fantasy adventure directed by Peter Jackson. It is the second film in his trilogy based on J. R. R. Tolkien's novel and picks up right after The Fellowship of the Ring, when the group formed to destroy the One Ring has been broken apart.

The film follows several storylines at once. Frodo and his companion Samwise Gamgee (Sean Astin) continue toward Mordor, lost and short of supplies. They are soon shadowed by Gollum, the creature once bound to the Ring, and Frodo makes the risky choice to let him serve as their guide. Gollum is played by Andy Serkis.

Elsewhere, Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), together with Legolas and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies), sets out after the captors who took their friends Merry and Pippin. The chase leads them into the realm of Rohan, a country that is under growing pressure. There they meet Gandalf, played by Ian McKellen, who returns with new purpose, and they are drawn into the troubles of the Rohirrim.

Liv Tyler as Arwen and Cate Blanchett as Galadriel also appear.
