Career

Pravin Tambe had a very unusual cricket career. He made his professional cricket debut when he was 41 years old. In a era where people retire at that age, Pravin decided to start his career. Growing up, he played for the Shivaji Park Gymkhana team. Primarily, he thought of becoming a fast bowler but turned into a leg spinner after his coach’s advice. In a matter of no time, he has become really good at spinning the bowl. In fact, he is a right-hand batter too. However, he is primarily well-known for impressive spin bowling.

Unlike others who usually join an IPL team through first-class cricket, he made his professional cricket debut through IPL. At age 41, he was bought by Rajasthan Royals for 10 lakh INR. It was a bold decision by RR to buy a player who has never played a first-class match. However, he has definitely proved that he was definitely the purchase through his top-class bowling. After being with RR for the next two seasons, he has played with Gujarat Lions & Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t bought by any other teams after IPL 10. Regardless of having decent bowling figures, no team was interested to pick him up. In 2020, he played CPL (Caribbean Premier League) for Trinbago Knight Riders becoming the first Indian cricketer to get a contact in that specific league.
