Doctor Who is a 1963 BBC One TV series created by Donald Wilson, C. E. Webber and Sydney Newman. It stars Sylvester McCoy, Samuel Anderson, Pearl Mackie and others.

Synopsis

Doctor Who is a British science fiction adventure series that first aired in 1963. It combines action, time travel and a steady supply of strange worlds, and it has remained on screen for decades by letting its central role pass from one performer to the next.

The title character is the Doctor, a curious and eccentric traveller who explores time and space aboard a ship called the TARDIS. From the outside it looks like an ordinary blue police box. Inside it is far larger than it appears, able to carry its crew to any place and any period. The Doctor rarely travels alone. Companions from ordinary life join the journeys, and the series follows what happens when they step out of the door into an unfamiliar era or a distant planet.

Episodes tend to set up a puzzle or a threat, such as a hostile alien force, a historical event that has gone wrong, or a technology nobody should have, and then send the travellers to deal with it using wit rather than weapons. Over the years the cast has included Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor, Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald, Alex Kingston as River Song and Pearl Mackie as Bill Potts.
