Summit1g American Twitch Streamer From Orange County

Early life

Jaryd Russell Lazar was born on 23 April 1987 in Orange County, California. He is better known by his online handle, summit1g. The records available for this profile say little about his family or schooling, so the account of his life begins with his entry into competitive gaming.

Career

Lazar first played competitively as a professional gamer in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. When he stepped away from esports competition, he turned to live streaming on Twitch. His early channel content centred on CS:GO and WarZ, and it grew from there into a wide mix of games. Titles he has streamed include Escape from Tarkov, Grand Theft Auto V, Sea of Thieves, Overwatch, DayZ, iRacing, Foxhole, Hearthstone and Rust.

His audience grew quickly in the second half of the 2010s. In 2017 he drew wide attention when his follower count on Twitch passed that of the channel Syndicate. The following year, his channel became the most-followed on the platform, overtaking the channel run by Riot Games.

Not every episode of his streaming career was smooth. In May 2018 he played with the internet personality Jake Paul, and some viewers complained afterwards because of Paul's recent public controversies. Lazar answered by saying he was disappointed with the chat and had expected the community around his channel, known as the 1g squad, to handle it with a thicker skin.

In April 2020 he spoke critically about Valorant, the free-to-play tactical shooter developed by Riot Games. He said the closed beta had been badly managed and claimed that some streamers had exploited Twitch's Drops system to obtain beta access and raise their viewer numbers. He later apologised on Twitter, then removed the apology.

A month later, in May 2020, he agreed a multi-year deal with Twitch covering content and partnership support. By 27 September 2023 his channel had more than 6 million followers, ranking him 28th among Twitch streamers.

Speedrunning became a recurring feature of his broadcasts. From July 2021 he regularly attempted Max Payne 3 runs on stream, and on 2 July 2021 he set a world record in the game's Hardcore category while live. In 2023 he and the streamer EsfandTV were invited by One Championship to stream its first MMA event held in the United States.

Away from Twitch, he runs a YouTube channel, which had about 796,000 subscribers when counted in April 2025.
