Biography
Early life
Cristine Reyes was born on 5 February 1989 in Marikina, in the Philippines. She attended Roosevelt College Marikina. Her screen career began while she was still a teenager, when she became a finalist in the first season of the GMA Network talent show StarStruck.
Career
After StarStruck, Reyes took roles in several GMA Network drama series, including Mulawin (2004), Darna (2005) and Marimar (2007). In 2008 she moved to the rival network ABS-CBN, where she was cast in more mature parts, starting with the series Eva Fonda that year. Later television work included Kristine (2010), Tubig at Langis (2016) and Nang Ngumiti ang Langit (2019), in which she played Katrina Salvador-Villaluna.
Her film credits begin in 2009 with the horror picture Patient X and the comedy Ang Darling Kong Aswang, which is among her commercially successful titles. In 2010 she appeared in Working Girls, the film with which she is most associated in the record, and released an album, Cristine. In 2011 she took part in Tumbok and in No Other Woman, where she played a betrayed wife opposite Anne Curtis and Derek Ramsay. That film became one of the highest-grossing Filipino releases of its year, and its success brought her wide attention. She later played Hilaria Aguinaldo in El Presidente (2012), appeared in Seven Sundays (2017), and took roles in Maria and the psychological thriller Untrue, both released in 2019.
Reyes has appeared in dozens of productions across film and television, with twelve screen credits on record running from 2008 to 2023. After the ABS-CBN network ceased its broadcast franchise operations in 2020, she returned to GMA Network. In 2022 she played Imee Marcos in the historical drama Maid in Malacanang and repeated the role in the 2023 sequel Martyr or Murderer. Another 2023 title in her filmography is Kidnap for Romance. In 2024 she appeared on the noontime show It's Showtime, which was carried on several networks at once, and she has since worked on projects for TV5. Her film career is managed by Viva Films.
Alongside acting, she has worked as a model and dancer. Reports from local media have credited her films with collective earnings of more than 1.05 billion pesos, and she has been among the lead performers in several of the highest-grossing Filipino films of the 21st century. Besides No Other Woman, those titles include Seven Sundays, Bromance: My Brother's Romance, The Gifted and Ang Darling Kong Aswang.
Recognition
For her work in No Other Woman, Reyes shared the Box Office Queen award with Anne Curtis at the 43rd Box Office Entertainment Awards, presented by the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation. She has received four FAMAS Award nominations, three of them for Best Actress. In 2020 she won the Best Actress prize at the 40th Oporto International Film Festival for her performance in Untrue. In 2009 the Philippine edition of FHM named her to its list of women of the year, and the magazine also included her on a list covering the decade.
Personal life
In 2024 Reyes completed a certificate in public administration at the University of the Philippines National College of Public Administration and Governance, adding to her earlier schooling in Marikina.
