Biography

Dadju, born Dadju Alimasi Nsungula, is a French singer and rapper of Congolese descent. He was born on 2 May 1991 in Bobigny. He began as one half of the duo The Shin Sekaï and then built a solo career in French hip-hop and contemporary R&B. He is also known as Prince Dadj.

Early life

Dadju grew up in a musical family. His father, Djanana Djuna, is a Congolese vocalist who sang in Papa Wemba's band. His half-brother is the singer Gims, a former member of the rap group Sexion d'Assaut, and two other brothers, Bedjik and Xgangs, are rappers as well. Music was therefore part of his background well before he started his own career in the early 2010s.

Career

From 2012 to 2016 Dadju was a member of The Shin Sekaï alongside the rapper Abou Tall. The duo was signed to the label Wati B. They released two mixtapes, The Shin Sekaï Vol. I in 2013 and Volume II in 2014, and the album Indéfini in 2016. In 2016 the pair announced a split so that each could pursue solo work.

His first solo album, Gentleman 2.0, appeared in 2017, the same year he signed with Polydor Records, part of Universal Music Group. The record included the single "Reine". In 2018 he put out the singles "Django" and "Bob Marley". His next album, Poison ou Antidote, followed in 2020 and was accompanied by the singles "Cadenas" and "Meleğim". "Mon Soleil" came out in 2021, and the album Cullinan was released in 2022. In 2023 he issued the single "I Love You", and in 2024 he released the album Héritage. Across 2017 to 2024 his catalogue counts four albums and seven singles. His label is listed as Wati B.

Besides music, Dadju has one screen credit: the film Ima, released in 2022.

On 22 April 2025 he performed at Solidarité Congo, a sold-out benefit concert at the Accor Arena in Paris. The event brought together about thirty artists from the French rap scene alongside international and Congolese musicians. It aimed to raise money for children affected by the conflict in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with proceeds directed to his charity, Give Back.

Recognition

Dadju has won three NRJ Music Awards. In 2018 he received the award for francophone revelation of the year. He then took the award for francophone male artist of the year in both 2020 and 2021. These three wins make up his full awards record on file.

Public roles

Dadju is a member of the group The Shin Sekaï, which was active from 2012 to 2016. He also serves as the public face of his charity effort, Give Back, which received the proceeds of the 2025 benefit concert.

Personal life

Dadju married in 2016, and a daughter was born a few months later. A son followed in 2020.
