Together with his brother he shared the role of Patrick Kelly in the sitcom Grace Under Fire until 1998, and for several years afterwards the two continued to appear in films and series together, often sharing a single character. Their feature credits from this period include Big Daddy in 1999, a comedy that recorded a worldwide box office of about 235 million dollars, and The Astronaut's Wife the same year. The role continued in the spin-off The Suite Life on Deck, where he held top billing, and in The Suite Life Movie in 2011. He was also a member of the Disney Channel Circle of Stars, a group that recorded Disney songs, and he recorded a version of "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes" for Disneymania compilations.

That year he took the lead role of Lucas Ward in the thriller Dismissed, appeared in the short film Carte Blanche, and was cast as Nick in the comedy Banana Split. In 2019 he played Paul in the short film Daddy. In 2020 he starred as Trevor in After We Collided, the sequel to After, and in the same year it was announced that the first issue of his comic book Sun Eater would be released.
