Early life

Giusy Ferreri is an Italian singer and songwriter, born on 17 April 1979 in Palermo. Her music is listed under pop and blues, and her label is Sony Music. She reached a national audience in 2008, when she took part in the first Italian edition of the television talent show X Factor and finished in second place.

Career

Her debut came in June 2008 with an EP led by "Non ti scordar mai di me", a song written for her by the singer Tiziano Ferro. The single stayed at the top of the Italian chart for fifteen consecutive weeks, and the EP also reached first place on the album chart. Her first full album, Gaetana, followed in November 2008 and was introduced by the single "Novembre", which also reached number one in Italy. Her second studio album, Fotografie (2009), was made up of cover versions of songs by Italian and international artists. Il mio universo (2011) reached number one on the Italian album chart, and its single "Il mare immenso" was later honoured at the Premio Lunezia as the best song from the Sanremo festival.

Ferreri returned to the Sanremo Music Festival several times. She performed "Ti porto a cena con me" there before releasing the album L'attesa in 2014, and in 2017 she took "Fa talmente male" to the festival, with the album Girotondo appearing in the same year. In 2022 she entered with "Miele" and released the album Cortometraggi.

Collaborations have been central to her later success. In 2015 she recorded "Roma-Bangkok" with the rapper Baby K; the song spent eleven weeks at number one in Italy and was certified diamond. In 2018 the production duo Takagi & Ketra chose her as the female voice of "Amore e capoeira", which topped the Italian chart for twelve weeks. She worked with the same duo and the singer Omi on "Jambo" in 2019, and again with Takagi & Ketra and Elettra Lamborghini on "La isla" in 2020. In 2021 came "Shimmy Shimmy", a dance-pop single that spread widely on TikTok through a choreography video. Other releases include "Le cose che canto" and "Momenti perfetti" in 2019, and "Causa effetto" and "Federico Fellini" in 2022.

In November 2023 she wrote and performed the soundtrack for the film Il meglio di te. In 2024 she formed an alternative rock band called Bloom, which produced the album Hangover. Her singles from 2026 include "Musica classica", "Non dovrei non dovresti", "Vuoto cosmico" and "A due passi dal mare". At the 76th Sanremo festival in 2026 she appeared as a guest on the cover night, singing David Bowie's "Space Oddity", in Italian titled "Ragazzo solo, ragazza sola", with the competing singer Francesco Renga.

Recognition

Ferreri has taken five singles to number one on the Italian singles chart: "Non ti scordar mai di me", "Novembre", "Roma-Bangkok", "Amore e capoeira" and "Jambo". Across those releases she accumulated 48 weeks at the top of the chart, which is reported as more than the earlier total held by Madonna. "Amore e capoeira" was named Song of the Summer in 2018 after winning the Wind Summer Festival.

During the seventeenth edition of the television programme Amici di Maria De Filippi, in 2017 and 2018, she served as a teacher and judge alongside several other music and dance professionals. In 2025 she worked as a coach on the programme Io Canto Family.
