Biography

Luis Roberto Conriquez Magdaleno, who performs as Luis R. Conriquez, is a Mexican singer-songwriter born on 28 February 1996 in Caborca, Sonora. He works in regional Mexican music and is best known for corridos bélicos, a style related to corridos tumbados that draws on the lyrical conventions of the narcocorrido. His collaborations with other regional Mexican artists in 2022 and 2023 brought him a wide audience, and in later years he also recorded songs in Latin urban styles.

Early career

Conriquez grew up in Caborca. In 2018 he left a full-time job at a gas station to concentrate on songwriting. He then signed with the independent label Kartel Music and put out his debut album, Mis Inicios, which included "Mi Apodo El 20", a track recorded with Los Minis de Caborca.

The next year he released the single "El Buho", which reached the top ten of the US Regional Mexican Airplay chart. He also issued three records in 2019: the studio albums Pocos Pero Locos and Aquí Seguimos de Pie, and a compilation called Corridos 2019, Vol. 2.

Rise to prominence

In 2022 he worked with the band La Adictiva on "JGL", which reached number one on the US Regional Mexican Airplay chart in its fourth week. In August of that year he joined Peso Pluma on "Siempre Pendientes". Both songs have lyrics that refer to the drug trafficker Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, and the video for "Siempre Pendientes", directed by Cesar Acosta, was removed from YouTube three days after release following public criticism, having already passed two million views in its first day. The single was nonetheless commercially successful. He followed it with "Puro Campeón", recorded with Marca Registrada.

Early in 2023 Conriquez released a cover of Marco Antonio Solís's "Si Tú Te Fueras de Mí" and, in February, "Un Amor Como Este" with Grupo Firme. In March he put out "Como el Viento" with the American singer Nicky Jam, recorded in Miami during the week of the Premio Lo Nuestro awards. Over the summer he released several collaborations: "Viejo Lobo" with Natanael Cano, "Su Casa" with Peso Pluma, "La 701" with Tito Double P, and "Dembow Bélico" with Tito Double P and Joel de la P, the last of which mixes dembow with elements of a corrido.

In October 2023 he announced Corridos Bélicos, Vol. IV, his first album since 2022, and released the single "Sin Tanto Royo" with Tito Double P to promote it. Further collaborations followed that autumn, among them "De Fresa y Coco" with Los Dareyes de la Sierra and Edgardo Nuñez, and "Plebita" with the Colombian singer Ryan Castro. In December he released "Te Quiero Así", a tribute to Valentín Elizalde, and revealed the album's track list.

Corridos Bélicos, Vol. IV and later releases

Corridos Bélicos, Vol. IV came out at the start of 2024 with guest appearances from Peso Pluma and Gabito Ballesteros, among others. It reached number 36 on the US Billboard 200. That year he released "Si No Quieres No" with the singer-songwriter Netón Vega, which entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number 86 and was the first appearance on that chart for both artists. Afterwards he put out "Me Pongo Belikon" with Máxima Ventaja; the boxer Canelo Álvarez used the song, which helped it spread on TikTok.

In April 2024 he released "De Ellas", a posthumous collaboration with Joan Sebastian. He continued experimenting with dembow on "Que Se Cuide", recorded with Joel de la P and the Dominican rapper Chimbala.

Style and influences

Conriquez writes about heartbreak and everyday life as well as the subjects that drew attention to his biggest hits. He has named Gerardo Ortíz and Larry Hernández as influences and has since recorded with both. As of 2026 he has more than 4.6 million followers on Instagram.
