TomSka British YouTuber Born 1990 in Essex

Early life

Thomas James Ridgewell, who works online as TomSka, was born on 27 June 1990. As a child he made short films with his parents' video camera. Soon after YouTube was founded he built a website called CakeBomb, where he posted his own projects, among them the animated series asdfmovie, and the work of his friend Edd Gould, creator of Eddsworld.

He went on to study media production at the University of Lincoln. While a student there he made a series of unofficial advertisements for the university, which gathered millions of views and were also shown by the BBC.

Career

TomSka is a British YouTuber, filmmaker and actor who writes, directs, produces and appears in his own sketch comedy videos, video essays and animated series. His main channel had about 7.4 million subscribers in May 2025.

His best-known creation is asdfmovie, an independent animated sketch comedy series that strings together very short clips of minimalist characters in surreal and occasionally dark situations. Sixteen main episodes have been released, along with compilations of deleted scenes and a spin-off video. In October 2015 he published a book based on the series, Art is Dead: the asdf book, illustrated by Matt Ley. In May 2018 he released "The Muffin Song", a spin-off made in collaboration with Schmoyoho, and in 2019 he developed a card game based on the series with Big Potato Games, called Muffin Time: The Random Card Game, which raised more than 1,000,000 pounds on Kickstarter. A second game, Don't Press That Mine Turtle, raised over 300,000 pounds. The 2017 song "Beep Beep I'm a Sheep", with vocals by Ridgewell and Gabriel Brown, was included in the dance game Just Dance 2018.

He also worked on Eddsworld, where he voiced the character Tom, who was inspired by him. After Edd Gould died in 2012, Ridgewell took over production of the series, serving as showrunner until 2016, when he handed it to the animator Matt Hargreaves. His company, TurboPunch Limited, was founded in London on 17 January 2012, and he works there with the YouTuber and writer Eddie Bowley. Between April 2016 and February 2018 he uploaded a weekly vlog series called Last Week to his second channel, DarkSquidge, now known as TomSka & Friends. Together with Bowley he wrote the book Sam Kills Christmas, illustrated by Dorina Herdewijn and published on 8 November 2018.

His on-screen credit list includes the 2014 series Oscar's Hotel for Fantastical Creatures. In 2016 he filmed several sketches with the BBC for a possible sketch show on BBC Three.

He was credited as its creator and paid for the use.
