Aisha Dee Australian Actress Known for The Bold Type

Early life

Aisha Dee was born on 13 September 1993 on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, and grew up in Surfers Paradise. Her mother is an opera singer and her father is a jazz musician, so the performing arts were part of her home life from an early age. She has said that watching reruns of Sesame Street as a child was what first made her want to act.

Career

Dee's first major television role was Desi Biggins in the Australian-Canadian children's series The Saddle Club. The show also led to music: she appeared on albums released for the series in 2009, including a French-market release, and on the single "These Girls". In 2010 she had a recurring part as Christine in the Australian-British series Dead Gorgeous.

She then moved into American television. From 2011 to 2013 she played Mackenzie Miller in the Fox sitcom I Hate My Teenage Daughter, and from 2014 to 2015 she co-starred as Beth Kingston in the ABC Family drama Chasing Life. In 2017 she played Jules Koja in Channel Zero: No-End House, the second season of the Syfy horror anthology series.

Her best-known role is Kat Edison in The Bold Type. Her casting in the Freeform comedy-drama was announced in August 2016, and the series premiered on 20 June 2017. Freeform renewed it for two further seasons later that year, and it ran until 2021, with Dee in a main role throughout.

Alongside acting, she has recorded music under her own name and with a band. She released the Dee Dee & the Beagles EP in 2015, followed by the solo EPs Ice in My Rosé in 2020 and Suitcase in 2023.

Her later work includes the 2022 film Sissy and the lead role in the 2023 Australian drama miniseries Safe Home. In February 2025 she was named in two projects for the Australian streaming service Stan: the film One More Shot and the series Watching You. She also plays Chanelle in the 2025 Netflix limited series Apple Cider Vinegar.
