Oh Seung-ah South Korean Singer and Actress From Seoul

Early life

Oh Seung-ah was born in Seoul on 13 September 1988. She attended Changduk Girls' High School and went on to Sangmyung University. Before her debut as a singer she was reportedly offered a choice between joining the group Kara and joining Rainbow. She picked Rainbow, partly because she already knew several of its members as friends.

Career

Oh was a member of the South Korean girl group Rainbow, which was managed by DSP Media and worked in K-pop. The other members on record are Cho Hyun-young, Go Woo-ri, Jung Yoon-hye and Kim Ji-sook. Her time in the group began in 2009, and while she was still performing as a singer she also started to take on acting work. Her first listed screen credit is the television series Pinocchio, broadcast in 2014.

After Rainbow ended she concentrated on acting. In 2017 she starred in the daily drama A Sea of Her Own, which brought her a nomination for an Excellence Award for an actress in a daily drama. She next took a supporting part in Grand Prince. In 2018 she played the central antagonist in Secrets and Lies, a performance that won her a Best Actress award. Her portrayal of a villain in Bad Love was also well received.

The part that gave her the widest recognition came in 2021, when she played the lead antagonist, Yoon Jae-kyeong, in the melodrama The Second Husband, which ran from 2021 into 2022. The role earned her a nickname in the Korean press, "Serial Villain", as she was cast in several similar parts. In April 2021 she signed with the agency Starhue Entertainment. In 2022 she returned to television as Kang Ba-da, a ruthless chaebol executive at the company Le Blanc and the main villain of Vengeance of the Bride. Her most recent listed credit is the series The Third Marriage, from 2023. Pinocchio, Vengeance of the Bride and The Third Marriage are the three titles in the screen database that carry her name, and all three are television series.

Public roles

Oh served as an ambassador for Happy Angel in 2019. In 2021 she was named a public relations ambassador for a campaign called The Miracle of 119 Won.

Recognition

Her best-known honours are tied to her television work. The nomination for A Sea of Her Own in 2017 was her first on record, and the Best Actress award for Secrets and Lies in 2018 followed. Her later parts as a villain in The Second Husband and Vengeance of the Bride kept her in leading roles on Korean television, and the first of them gave her the label "Serial Villain" that is now often attached to her name.
