Biography
Early life
Jasmine Kaur Sandlas is an Indian singer and songwriter who works mainly in Punjabi. She was born in Punjab, India, and her mother encouraged her to sing on stage from an early age. At school she entered singing competitions and became interested in Punjabi folk singers. When she was twelve or thirteen her family moved to California, where she grew up in Stockton. She attended Bear Creek High School and later California State University, Stanislaus.
In California she took in West Coast music alongside her Punjabi influences. She began writing songs at sixteen, around the time she discovered early 2000s hip hop and pop artists such as 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Britney Spears, Outkast, Gwen Stefani and Nelly Furtado.
Career
Her first song, "Muskan", came out in 2007 and was a hit. It belongs to her debut album The Diamond, an underground release that followed in 2008 and brought her attention from the mainstream Punjabi music industry. In 2012 Sony Music released her studio album Gulabi, which was produced by the rapper Bohemia, with "Adhi Rati" as the lead single. The album came out on 6 November 2012.
In 2014 she started her career as a playback singer in Hindi films with "Yaar Na Miley", recorded with Yo Yo Honey Singh for the film Kick. The song became widely popular and brought her wide attention for her vocal style. In 2015 she released the single "Punjab De Javak" and sang "Ishq Da Sutta" and "Raat Jashan Di" for the soundtracks of One Night Stand and Zorawar. She also took part in Angels of Rock, an MTV India series about women's empowerment. Along with Shalmali Kholgade, Akasa Singh and Anusha Mani, she travelled from Mumbai to the Attari border, meeting women who had built their own careers; the pilot aired on 31 July 2016.
From 2017 she released several successful singles with the singer Garry Sandhu and the producer Intense, including "Illegal Weapon" and "Laddu" in 2017 and "Sip Sip" in 2018. "Sip Sip" and "Illegal Weapon" were later remixed for the soundtrack of the film Street Dancer 3D in 2020. Her third album, What's in a Name, was produced by Intense and Hark and appeared in 2020. She then released The Great Punjabi Experiment, a nine-song project meant to test her own predictions about what listeners like. It began with the single "Gaana Challe Ya Na" on 8 March 2021 and ended with "Dil Tutteya" on 10 February 2022. Her EP Tini, with four songs, came out on her birthday, and she released the single "Jee Jeha Karda" on 7 November 2022.
In 2023 she released "Jehri Ve" on 30 January, with vocals from Gippy Grewal, and the song was included on the soundtrack of the Punjabi film Mitran Da Naa Chalda. In August of that year she released the four-song Rude EP. In May 2024 she returned to Hindi film music after a gap of four years, with the song "Taras" for the film Munjya. In 2025 she released "POLS", which she described as a rebirth in her artistic journey, and she worked with the rapper Raga on "Brown Baddie", a return to the hip hop sound of her early work. She also sang "Nasha" for the film Raid 2. Her fourth album, Legal Robbery, produced by Intense, arrived in October 2025.
She also worked with the composer Shashwat Sachdev on the soundtracks of the web series The Ba***ds of Bollywood and the film Dhurandhar, and she appeared on the soundtrack of its sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, in 2026. In July 2026 she began her first solo tour across four cities in India, called The Dream Girl tour.

Sandlas was inducted into the Women Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2023 for her impact on the music industry. In April 2026 GQ India included her in its list of Most Influential Young Indians of 2026.
