Biography
Early life
Andreas Bourani was born Andreas Stiegelmair on 2 November 1983 and grew up in Augsburg, in Bavaria. He attended the St. Stephan high school there, though he left without graduating, and he also studied at a private school of music, the Downtown Music Institute. In 2008 he relocated from Munich to Berlin.
Career
In 2010 Bourani signed a recording contract with Universal Music, the label still listed as his, and he appeared as an opening act on the arena tours of Philipp Poisel and Culcha Candela that year. His debut album, Staub & Fantasie, was released in June 2011. It reached number 23 on the German albums chart. Its single "Nur in meinem Kopf" entered the top twenty in Austria, Germany and Switzerland and was certified gold in Germany for more than 150,000 copies sold.
In September 2011 he represented Bavaria at the Bundesvision Song Contest with his second single, "Eisberg", and placed tenth. After that he toured with the singer Unheilig and was featured on one of that act's charting songs, "Wie wir waren". In April 2013 he received a nomination for the German Music Authors' Prize in the Best Pop Text category.
His second studio album, Hey, appeared in May 2014. Its single "Auf uns" went to number one on the German and Austrian singles charts, and the song was used in the trailer for Die Mannschaft, a documentary about the German national team's victory at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Records list three albums and two singles by him, released between 2011 and 2015. His music is listed under pop rock.
Television has been another part of his work. In May 2015 he joined Xavier Naidoo, Yvonne Catterfeld and others in the second season of the music show Sing meinen Song - Das Tauschkonzert. The same month it was announced that he would take over from Samu Haber, the lead singer of Sunrise Avenue, as a coach on the fifth season of The Voice of Germany. He has also done voice acting, speaking the part of Maui in the German dub of Moana (released there as Vaiana) in 2016 and the character Fred in the German version of Big Hero 6 (as Baymax - Riesiges Robowabohu) in 2014.
