JUNNA Japanese Singer Born 2000 in Nagoya

Early life

Junna was born Junna Sakai on 2 November 2000 in Nagoya, Japan, and uses a single name professionally, written in Japanese as じゅんな. She performs as a singer. She graduated from International Christian University in 2024.

Career

Her professional debut came through an anime. She was chosen as the singing voice of Mikumo Guynemer, the lead vocalist of the fictional group Walkure in Macross Delta. Walkure's first digital single, "Ikenai Borderline", came out at the end of December 2015, and she was fourteen at the time of the recording. That made her the youngest singer to join the Macross franchise in its thirty-five-year history. A second digital single, "Koi! Halation THE WAR", followed in March 2016, and the group went on to release several physical singles, among them "Ichido Dake no Koi Nara / Rune ga Pikatto Hikattara" in May 2016, "Zettai Reido Novatic / Hametsu no Junjou" in August 2016, "Walkure ga Tomaranai" in January 2017 and "Walkure ga Uragiranai" in February 2018.

Walkure also released studio albums. Walkure Attack! appeared in July 2016 and Walkure Trap! in September 2016, with Walkure Reborn! following in October 2021. The group put out a mini album, Walkure ga Tomaranai!, in January 2017, and a live album recorded at Yokohama Arena was released in May 2017. Other members of the group named on record include Kiyono Yasuno, Nao Toyama and Nozomi Nishida. Her recordings have been released through FlyingDog.

A solo career was announced in March 2017. She held a live tour that took in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka, and her first mini album, Vai! Ya! Vai!, was released in June 2017. Later that year she sang "Here", the first opening theme of the anime The Ancient Magus' Bride, and the single of that title came out in November 2017. In 2018 she toured again, visiting Sendai, Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, with the shows marking the release of her first single. During the tour she announced a second single, due in July, that would include the ending theme of the anime Lord of Vermilion.

Her anime theme work continued over the following years. In 2019 she performed "Kono Yubi Tomare", a theme song for the second season of Kakegurui. In 2021 she sang "Umi to Shinju", the opening theme for Fena: Pirate Princess, and in 2022 "Kaze no Oto Sae Kikoenai", used as the opening theme for Sabikui Bisco. In 2023 she returned to The Ancient Magus' Bride with "Dear", the opening theme of its second season.

In 2026 Junna announced that she had signed with SME Records, an imprint of Sony Music Labels. Her first digital single under the label, "Gum", was released on 24 April 2026. Earlier she had been managed by Cube Inc. On 17 June 2026 she was named as one of thirty-five musical contributors to Grotesqqque, an omnibus film from the animation studio CloverWorks.
