Biography

Jasmine Ying Thompson is a British singer and songwriter who first built an audience online. She was born on 8 November 2000 in London and started posting videos of herself singing on YouTube when she was ten. She is best known for a 2015 dance remix of her cover "Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better)" and for singing on Robin Schulz's 2014 single "Sun Goes Down".

Early life

Thompson was born in London to an English father and a Chinese mother. She attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School. At the age of ten she began filming herself singing and uploading the clips to YouTube. Her YouTube channel had about 3.65 million subscribers as of April 2025.

Career

In 2013 Thompson released a run of cover versions herself. In July she put out a version of Naughty Boy's "La La La". In August she followed it with a duet cover of Taylor Swift's "Everything Has Changed" with Gerald Ko, plus covers of Passenger's "Let Her Go" and David Guetta's "Titanium". In September 2013 she released her debut album, Bundle of Tantrums, which included the singles "La La La", "Let Her Go" and "Titanium". The same month she released an acoustic cover of Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody". It reached number 32 on the UK Singles Chart and was used in an advertisement for the supermarket chain Sainsbury's. In October 2013 she released the extended play Under the Willow Tree, from which the track "Run" had moderate success in Europe and the United States.

Her second album, Another Bundle of Tantrums, came out on 20 April 2014 and reached number 126 on the UK Albums Chart. That September the BBC used her cover of "Everybody Hurts" in its autumn trailer for the soap opera EastEnders. In 2014 she was also the featured vocalist on "Sun Goes Down" by the German house producer Robin Schulz. The single reached the top ten in several countries, including Australia, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

On 12 June 2015 she released "Adore", her first single on Atlantic Records. The extended play Adore followed on 18 September 2015 and held five songs: "Adore", "Do It Now", "Great Escape", "Let Myself Try" and "Crystal Heart". Her cover of "Ain't Nobody" came back to prominence the same year, when the German producer and DJ Felix Jaehn remixed it under the title "Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better)". The remix reached number two in the United Kingdom and number one in Austria, Germany, Hungary, Israel and the Netherlands. It also made the top ten in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Romania, Sweden and Switzerland.

In 2016 her recording of "Mad World" appeared in the trailer for the film American Pastoral, Ewan McGregor's film, and in the French film Ares, where it plays over the closing credits. She released her fourth extended play, Wonderland, on 19 May 2017, and the fifth, Colour, on 29 March 2019. On 16 July 2020 she worked with the German DJ and producer Zedd on the song "Funny".

Recognition

Thompson's public recognition has come chiefly through chart placings, such as the UK peak of number two for "Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better)", and through the use of her recordings in television advertising, trailers and film.
