Early life

Ashley Greene was born on 21 February 1987 in Jacksonville, Florida, and spent her childhood between Jacksonville and the smaller town of Middleburg. She started school at University Christian School and moved to Samuel W. Wolfson High School when she reached tenth grade. She finished high school ahead of schedule and, at 17, relocated to Los Angeles to look for acting work. She later studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.

Career

Greene first pictured herself in modeling, but she was told that her height, 5 feet 5 inches (1.65 m), was a problem for fashion work and that commercials would suit her better. She took commercial and acting classes and found that she liked acting more than modeling. Her early television work consisted of guest spots on programs such as Punk'd and Crossing Jordan. Her first film credit on record is King of California, released in 2007.

The part that made her widely known arrived in 2008, when she was cast as Alice Cullen in the film adaptations of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight novels. She played the character across all five films: Twilight (2008), The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010), The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011) and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 (2012). The last of these has the highest worldwide box-office figure among her titles on record, at $830 million.

Alongside the saga she took a wide range of smaller projects. She appeared in the thriller Summer's Blood and in the drama Skateland, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010. In 2011 she reunited with her Twilight colleague Kellan Lutz in A Warrior's Heart, and that year she also appeared in the comedy Butter and the television series Pan Am. The horror film The Apparition followed in 2012, and she took part in LOL the same year. She starred in CBGB in 2013, a film built around the New York music club of the same name. Later film work includes Wish I Was Here and Burying the Ex in 2014, Staten Island Summer and Urge in 2015, and In Dubious Battle and Holidays in 2016.

Greene also worked in voice acting. In 2015 she voiced Barbara Gordon, also known as Oracle, in the video game Batman: Arkham Knight. Her later screen credits include Bombshell in 2019, The Wrong Place in 2022, The Retirement Plan in 2023 and The Ritual in 2025, where she played Sister Rose. In 2026 she played a fictionalized version of herself in the Disney+ series Wonder Man, and The Cure, also from 2026, is her latest listed credit. In all, about 29 film and television credits are on record, spanning 2007 to 2026.

Several collaborators recur in her filmography. Lutz appears in six of her listed titles, while Anna Kendrick and Kristen Stewart each appear in five. Bill Condon directed two of the titles on record.

Recognition

In 2010 Greene received the Style Icon Award at the Young Hollywood Awards, which are presented by Hollywood Life. That year she also received an award from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals for representing Avon and the company's policy of not testing on animals. The Twilight Saga, LOL and the video game Batman: Arkham Knight are among the works most closely associated with her.

Personal life

Greene has described herself as a longtime follower of American football who supports the Florida Gators. She became friends with her Twilight co-stars Kellan Lutz and Jackson Rathbone, whom she knew before filming on the series began. She met Paul Khoury through mutual friends in 2009, and the two married in 2018. They have one child.
