Early life

Maria Corina Smith Pocaterra, known as Corina Smith, was born on 8 September 1991 in Caracas, Venezuela. She studied economics and finance at Bentley University in the United States and returned to Venezuela in 2014. Besides singing, she works as an actress and model.

Career

Smith began her screen career in 2009 with the television series Somos tu y yo: Un nuevo dia, a spin-off of Somos tu y yo. She played Maria Corina, a cheerleader at the fictional Granadillo Academy. The series premiered on 17 August 2009 on the Latin American channel Boomerang. In 2010 she joined the main cast of NPS: No puede ser, a second spin-off that closed out the franchise. It premiered in Venezuela on Venevision on 25 July 2010, and reached Boomerang Latin America on 8 November 2010.

Her music career started in 2015 with the promotional single "La Dificil", with a video shot in La Guaira, Venezuela. She released "Vitamina D" in May 2016, followed by "Escape", a collaboration with the Venezuelan singer Gustavo Elis, in September, and "Ahora o Nunca" in December. In June 2017 she was invited to present an award at the Heat Latin Music Awards, organised by the music channel HTV. In August 2017 she travelled to Ecuador to promote her music and opened for Daddy Yankee in Guayaquil. Her September 2017 single "Completa" reached the top of the Record Report chart in Venezuela, and the song's success led several brands in the country to use her as their face.

She continued with "Montana Rusa" in February 2018, "Mas" in July 2018, and "Cantante" in September 2018, a track made with the Venezuelan artists Neutro Shorty and Big Soto and produced by Rimas Music and Trap Money. Rimas Entertainment is the label listed for her. "Este ano" followed in December 2018. In 2019 she put out "Mientras Tanto" in January, "Fondo de Pantalla" in February and "Se te nota" in April.

The year 2020 brought a large number of singles and collaborations, among them "A Veces", "Dejame Llevarte" with Nibal, "Te Voy a Extranar" with Lyanno, "Por Fin" and "Un Dia Mas". In 2021 she released "Obviamente", along with "A Veces", "GPS" and "Roto", three songs that were planned for her first EP. That EP, Antisocial, came out in March 2022. A second EP, X Miami, followed in November 2022.

In 2023 Smith released her first studio album, Triste Pero Siempre Mami, which reached the Venezuelan album charts and also drew attention elsewhere in Latin America. Her music is classed as ballad and Latin pop. Listings of her notable work include the television series Somos tu y yo: Un nuevo dia and NPS: No puede ser, the two productions in which she appeared as an actress.

Recognition

Smith is a winner of an award at the Pepsi Venezuela Music Awards. Her single "Completa" was a chart leader on Record Report, and she was selected to present a prize at the 2017 Heat Latin Music Awards. By 2025, her official YouTube channel had passed one million subscribers.
