Biography
Early life
Felicia Day was born on 28 June 1979 in Huntsville, Alabama. She began performing as a child, taking the role of Scout in a local production of To Kill a Mockingbird, and she trained in operatic singing and ballet, appearing at concerts and competitions across the United States. Much of her schooling was done at home, and she started college at sixteen.
A National Merit Scholar in 1995, Day was accepted to the Juilliard School but chose the University of Texas at Austin, where a full scholarship supported her violin studies. She completed a double major in mathematics and music performance and graduated at nineteen. Playing video games was a lasting interest, and her time with the online game World of Warcraft later became the raw material for her best-known writing.
Career
After graduating, Day moved to Los Angeles to act. Her early credits were short and independent films, commercials and television guest spots, among them Undeclared and Maybe It's Me. These led to a part in the film Bring It On Again, the title role in June, and a recurring appearance as the potential Slayer Vi on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In the 2005 HBO film Warm Springs she sang "I Won't Dance" as a character who uses a wheelchair.
In 2007 she created, wrote and starred in The Guild, a comedy web series about the culture of online role-playing games that ran until 2013. The first season was hosted mainly on YouTube. For the second, the series made a deal with Microsoft and premiered on Xbox Live, MSN Video and the Zune Marketplace, an arrangement that allowed the cast and crew to be paid. Day also produced songs and music videos with the cast, including "(Do You Wanna Date My) Avatar", released in 2009.
In 2008 she played Penny in Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, the three-part web musical created by Joss Whedon. Around the same period she appeared in an episode of House, in the Dollhouse episodes "Epitaph One" and "Epitaph Two", and in Lie to Me, where she sang alongside Brendan Hines. She also played Dr. Holly Marten in 18 episodes of Eureka, during its last two seasons, and starred in the Syfy film Red: Werewolf Hunter.
In 2011 Day wrote and starred in the web series Dragon Age: Redemption, playing an elf named Tallis, and she later voiced the same character in downloadable content for Dragon Age II. In March 2012 she announced Geek & Sundry, a premium YouTube channel that took over production of The Guild from its sixth season. She hosted several of its programs and helped create Tabletop with Wil Wheaton, serving as an executive producer. In 2015 she suggested that the original cast of Critical Role stream their home tabletop game. Geek & Sundry was acquired by Legendary in August 2014, with Day keeping creative control, and she left the company in 2016, saying she had grown tired of a managerial role.
Her later work includes Kinga Forrester on Mystery Science Theater 3000 from April 2017, a guest voice role as Pear Butter in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, and Poppy Kline in the third season of The Magicians. She also appeared in Con Man in 2015. In June 2018 she organised a twelve-hour Twitch livestream that raised more than $212,000 for the Texas nonprofit RAICES. She hosted the official podcast for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power in 2022 and the aftershow for its second season in 2024, and in 2023 she created and starred in Third Eye, a scripted fantasy podcast from Audible. Her screen credits also include the 2024 film Tim Travers and the Time Traveler's Paradox. As an author she has written the memoir You're Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) and Embrace Your Weird, as well as the graphic novel The Lost Daughter of Sparta, published in March 2026 with illustrations by Rowan MacColl; she also narrated its audiobook.
Recognition
At the first Streamy Awards, held in Los Angeles on 28 March 2009, Day won Best Female Actor in a Comedy for The Guild, and she took the same award again in 2010. She was also recognised for Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog in 2009 and was nominated for Best Guest Appearance at the third Streamys. TV Week placed her on its list of the top ten web video creators in September 2008. The Guild itself won a Greenlight Award at South by Southwest and several awards from the International Academy of Web Television. In June 2018 Day received a Behind the Voice Actors award for her guest performance as Pear Butter, and in 2023 she was given the Inkpot Award at San Diego Comic-Con.

Day served on the board of directors of the International Academy of Web Television from December 2009 until August 2012.
