Ivana Baquero Spanish Actress Born 1994 in Barcelona

Ivana Baquero is a Spanish actress born on 11 June 1994 in Barcelona. She came to wide attention as a child in the Spanish-language fantasy film Pan's Labyrinth and has since worked in Spanish, English-language and international productions. She is also known for the television series The Shannara Chronicles and for the Spartacus spin-off House of Ashur.

Early life

Baquero is the daughter of Iván Baquero and Julia Macías. She attended the American School of Barcelona, where she became fluent in English, Spanish and Catalan, and she finished school in 2012.

Career

She started acting professionally at the age of eight, taking small parts in a number of films. The most notable of these early roles was a minor one in Fragile, released in 2005. She also appeared in Romasanta and Rottweiler, both from 2004, and made several appearances on Spanish television.

In 2006 she was chosen from about a thousand young actresses to play Ofelia in Pan's Labyrinth. The part had first been conceived for a girl of around eight, and the script was adjusted to suit Baquero, who was eleven at the time. Pan's Labyrinth is the best documented title on her list of credits, with entries in dozens of language editions of the online encyclopedia. She went on working on other projects while still at school, including The Anarchist's Wife in 2008.

In 2009 she played the title role in the horror film The New Daughter, directed from a story by John Connolly. It was her first American role. Later films include Another Me (2013), The Misfits Club (2014), Gelo (2016) and Sister of Mine (2017). In 2016 she took the part of Eretria in The Shannara Chronicles, MTV's adaptation of the fantasy novels by Terry Brooks. The series ran for two seasons, the second of which began in 2017.

From 2019 to 2020 she played Eva Villanueva in the Netflix series High Seas. In 2021 she appeared in the film Black Friday!, and in 2025 she was in A Widow's Game. She is a regular cast member of Spartacus: House of Ashur, a series from 2025.

Her screen credits on record total seventeen titles, thirteen of them films and four of them television series, and they span the period from the early 2000s to 2025.

Among the titles she is credited as being known for are Romasanta and The Anarchist's Wife, in which she was billed third in each case, and The Shannara Chronicles, where she was billed fourth. Her work has therefore spanned Spanish-language cinema, American horror and international streaming and network series, and it has been made in both Spanish and English.

Recognition

For Pan's Labyrinth Baquero won the Goya Award for Best New Actress in 2007. Her performance in that film also drew critical praise.
