Biography

Early life

Lidija Bačić, who also performs as Lille, is a Croatian pop singer and model. She was born on 4 August 1985 in Split and grew up with two sisters and a brother. Her family is Roman Catholic, and she sang in church choirs from childhood through her high school years. Bačić began appearing at local festivals and competitions at the age of ten. Her first prize came at the children's festival Dječji Festival in 1997, where she performed a cover of Mišo Limić's song "Zaljubljeni dječak". In 2005 she also drew notice at Uskrsfest, a Croatian religious festival held at Easter, with songs that included "Made for Heaven" and "Sign of Victory". Her height is listed as 178 centimetres.

Career

In early 2000 Bačić became the main vocalist of a group called Perle, which played at a range of festivals. In 2001 the group tried to represent Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Pokraj bistra izvora" and placed 15th in a field of 20 entries.

She auditioned in Split for the second season of the television talent show Hrvatski Idol and finished as runner-up, which in 2005 brought her to wide public attention. Her debut album, Majčina ljubav, followed in 2010. Over the years she has worked with other Croatian performers, including Mladen Grdović, Alen Vitasović, Grupa Vigor, Dražen Zečić and Tomislav Bralić.

Her 2014 single "Kaktus" became one of her best known songs. Its video, which featured a dance routine, drew a mix of praise and criticism, and Bačić has said in interviews that she found nothing vulgar in it and that her aim is to reach listeners through songs. Her later albums include Daj da noćas poludimo (2011), Viski, Tijelo kao pjesma (2017), Revolucija (2020) and Flashback (2022).

In January 2019 she was announced as one of 16 participants in Dora 2019, the national contest in Croatia used to choose the country's Eurovision entry. She took part with the song "Tek je počelo" and finished in 11th place.

Bačić has also taken small acting parts, sometimes billed as Lille. Her screen work includes the film Aleksi (2017), the television series Ko te šiša and Na granici (both 2018) and Blago Nama (2022). The listing of her credits shows one film in 2025, When Will You Marry?, as the most recent entry. Her YouTube channel had about 906,000 subscribers when it was last counted in January 2025.

Personal life

Bačić has spoken openly about her Catholic faith. In interviews she has said that attending Sunday Mass is a firm habit for her, and in 2018 she posted a message on Instagram saying her heart belongs to Jesus, which prompted both positive and negative reactions from followers. She has also responded to criticism of her stage style and costumes, saying in a 2015 interview that faith remains central to her and that she does not see a conflict between it and her work as a performer.
