Early life

Öykü Gürman was born on 4 August 1982 in Istanbul. She attended the private Efdal Kindergarten and Primary School and later İstek Foundation Acıbadem High School, and in 2001 she graduated from Pera Fine Arts High School. That same year she began violin and singing lessons at the Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory.

Career

Gürman first became widely known as one half of a duo with her twin brother, Berk Gürman. The pair, performing as Öykü ve Berk, came to attention after they shared a video of themselves singing the folk song "Evlerinin Önü Boyalı Direk" on YouTube. They formed the duo in 2007, and their music mixed Mediterranean and Arabic elements. Their debut album, Kısmet, was released in 2007 on the label Pasaj Müzik and has ten songs. Alongside songs written by Berk, it presents well-known folk songs, called türküs, reworked with flamenco influences. A second album, İki Arada, followed in 2009, also on Pasaj. The two presented a music and talk programme on TRT 1 called Boyalı Direk. In 2010 they ended the duo and each chose a solo path.

Her first solo album, Bir Başka, appeared in 2011, and Rüya Bitti followed in 2015, both released through Pasaj Müzik. Her genre on record is pop music, and she is listed as playing the guitar. She has continued to issue singles over the following decade. Among them are "Nem Alacak Felek Benim" (2014), "Düşün Beni" (2018), "Deniz Gözlüm" and "Yine Sevenler Sevsin" (both 2020), "Ayaz Geceler" (2022) and "Acıyı Bırak" (2023). Several are collaborations. "Ay Işığı" (2019) was recorded with Koliva, and in 2021 she and her brother reunited for two songs, "Nació la Luna" and "Unutuldum Mu Yani". In 2024 she released "Bi Sana" with Burak King, as well as "Ey Halimi Soranım", "Ah Be Hayat" and "Bu Dağlar Kömürdendir". Her 2025 releases include "Kara Sevda", written for the soundtrack of the series Temel Sümela'nın Şifresi Yeniden, "Gidin Bulutlar Gidin", "Doyulur Mu" with İsmail Altunsaray, "Kahveyi Kavururlar" and "Bugün Bayram Günü".

From 2014 she turned much of her attention to acting. She is best known in that field for playing Asiye in the drama series Sen Anlat Karadeniz, in which she starred from 2018 to 2019. Her career has therefore moved between recording, television presenting and drama series.

Personal life

Gürman is married to Yavuz Bingöl. Her twin brother Berk remains a recurring musical partner, as the 2021 singles show.
