Synopsis

Pulp Fiction is a 1994 crime film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, drawing on black comedy, neo-noir and gangster traditions. Rather than following a single storyline, it weaves several connected episodes in Los Angeles together and presents them out of chronological order.

One thread follows two hitmen, Vincent Vega, played by John Travolta, and Jules Winnfield, played by Samuel L. Jackson. They work for the gangster Marsellus Wallace and spend their days collecting debts and retrieving property, trading unhurried conversation about food, philosophy and everyday trivia along the way. Vincent is also given an awkward assignment by his boss, which is to keep Marsellus's wife Mia, played by Uma Thurman, company for an evening.

Another episode centers on Butch Coolidge, a boxer played by Bruce Willis, whose career brings him into dealings with the same crime boss. A fixer named Winston Wolfe, played by Harvey Keitel, appears when someone needs a problem solved quickly. Rosanna Arquette and Christopher Walken also appear in the film. The characters cross paths in diners, apartments and parked cars, and the tone shifts between tense and darkly funny. The film is built around its dialogue and the way its separate stories overlap, with each episode adding another piece to the larger picture.
