Clément Lenglet French Footballer Born 1995 in Beauvais

Early life

Clément Nicolas Laurent Lenglet was born on 17 June 1995 in Beauvais, in the Oise department of northern France, and grew up in the nearby village of Fresneaux-Montchevreuil. As a boy he supported Paris Saint-Germain, and his father sometimes took him to the club's training ground to watch sessions. He has a younger brother, Corentin, who also plays football as a full-back. Lenglet is a centre-back, and he is listed at a height of 186 centimetres.

Career

Lenglet came through the system at Nancy and made his Ligue 2 debut on 27 September 2013 as a substitute in a goalless home draw with Arles-Avignon. In the 2015–16 season he played 34 league games as Nancy won the second-division title, and he scored the goal that clinched promotion to Ligue 1 against Sochaux in April 2016. He started 18 top-flight matches in the first half of the next season.

In January 2017 he signed for Sevilla in Spain, replacing a departing compatriot, and he made his debut in the Copa del Rey against Real Madrid. His first goal for the club came in August 2017, and in November of the same year he scored his first goal in European competition, a header against Spartak Moscow in the Champions League group stage. His performances in that tournament earned a place in ESPN's Champions League Best XI.

On 12 July 2018 Barcelona activated his release clause of 35 million euros. He appeared for the full 90 minutes in the 2018 Supercopa de España against Sevilla, which Barcelona won, and he scored his first Champions League goal for the club in August 2020 against Napoli. Over seven years at Barcelona his honours included La Liga in 2018–19, the Copa del Rey in 2020–21 and the Supercopa de España in 2018.

During this period, and after, Lenglet spent time on loan elsewhere. He joined Tottenham Hotspur for the 2022–23 season, and scored once in the Champions League for the club against Marseille. In September 2023 he moved to Aston Villa for a season. In August 2024 he was loaned to Atlético Madrid, and in June 2025 he ended his contract with Barcelona and signed a three-year deal with Atlético, running until 2028. On 30 June 2026 he went on loan to Benfica for the 2026–27 season.

At international level he represented France at age groups from under-16 to under-21. Didier Deschamps called him up to the senior squad in May 2019, and he made his debut on 11 June 2019 in a 4–0 win away to Andorra, scoring his first international goal in September of that year. He was part of the squad for UEFA Euro 2020. After several years away from the national side, he was recalled in May 2025, and France finished third in the 2024–25 UEFA Nations League.

Personal life

In April 2023 Lenglet took part in a 20 million dollar investment fund created for the football video game Goals. His record lists no children, spouse or other family members beyond his brother Corentin.
