Early life

Loi was born Leonie Greiner on 3 July 2002 in Mannheim, Germany. She sang in her school choir from the age of four. Her stage name is a variant spelling of the word lion and comes from a childhood nickname, "Leonie Lionheart". She plays both guitar and piano, and she has named the British singer-songwriter Adele as a strong influence on her during childhood.

Before she appeared on television, she entered a German school competition called Starke Schule with a song she had written herself and finished second nationwide. In 2021 she began studies at the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg.

Career

Loi first reached a national audience in 2017, when she took part at the age of fourteen in the fifth season of the German talent show The Voice Kids and advanced to the final. She releases her music through her own label, Volksmusic, and in 2021 she signed a distribution agreement with Warner Music. Her first single, "I Follow", came out in April 2021.

Her breakthrough release was "Gold", issued in 2022. The song reached number two on the singles chart in Poland and was certified gold there by the Polish Society of the Phonographic Industry. It also peaked at number twelve in Slovakia and entered the top forty in both Austria and Germany. In France it reached number 101 on the singles chart, and a French-language version featuring the singer Robin was certified gold.

Live work grew alongside the recordings. In the summer of 2022 she was a support act on the European tour of the singer Zoe Wees. On 9 June 2023 she opened for Sarah Connor at the Loreley music festival, and in the autumn of that year she set out on her first headline concert tour, the I Follow Tour, which ended on 1 November. In 2024 she competed in the eleventh season of the German television series The Masked Singer, a singing competition in which performers appear in costume, and she won it.

Recognition

At the 1LIVE Krone radio awards, Loi was nominated in the Best Newcomer Act category, and "Gold" received a nomination for Best Song. She won the eleventh season of The Masked Singer in 2024. "Gold" earned gold certifications in two countries, Poland and France, through its original and French-language versions.

Her online following is also sizeable. As of January 2025 her YouTube channel had about 207,000 subscribers, and her Instagram account had more than 239,000 followers when last counted in October 2026. She plays guitar and piano and has written songs herself since her school years, a background that reaches back to the Starke Schule entry mentioned above.
