Pratik Gandhi Indian Actor Born 1989 in Surat

Early life

Pratik Gandhi is an Indian actor who works in Gujarati and Hindi cinema, in theatre and on streaming and television. He was born in Surat, Gujarat, to parents who were both teachers. He went to school at V. D. Desai (Wadiwala) in the city, and it was in Surat that he first took part in theatre.

His training was in engineering rather than the arts. He graduated in industrial engineering from North Maharashtra University in Jalgaon in 2004. From 2004 to 2007 he worked for the National Productivity Council in Satara and Pune, and from January 2008 until 2016 he was employed in the cement division of Reliance Infrastructure in Mumbai. His acting career grew alongside those jobs, first on stage and then in film.

Career

Gandhi's early reputation came from Gujarati theatre. He took part in the play Aa Paar Ke Pele Paar and appeared in Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon, Hu Chandrakant Bakshi and Ame Badha Sathe To Duniya Laiye Mathe. In Mohan's Masala he performed a monologue in English, Hindi and Gujarati on the same day.

His first film role was in the Gujarati film Bey Yaar (2014), directed by Abhishek Jain. He took a lead part in Wrong Side Raju (2016), which won the National Film Award for Best Gujarati Film. Two more Gujarati films, Love Ni Bhavai (2017) and Ventilator (2018), did well commercially. Dhunki followed in 2019.

The largest change in his profile came with Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (2020), a biographical drama for Sony LIV directed by Hansal Mehta, in which he played the stockbroker Harshad Mehta. The performance brought him wide acclaim. He then played a lead in the Hindi film Bhavai (2021), which drew mixed reviews, and was cast in the web series Vitthal Teedi the same year as the title character. Atithi Bhooto Bhava arrived in 2022, along with another Gujarati release, Vaahlam Jaao Ne. He also took a part in Dedh Bigha Zameen, written and directed by Pulkit.

In July 2022 Hansal Mehta announced a multi-season biographical series about Mahatma Gandhi with Pratik Gandhi in the title role; the series, Gandhi, is credited to 2025. In 2024 he appeared in the Hindi films Madgaon Express and Do Aur Do Pyaar. Among his other credits are Agni, in which he is billed first, Phule, and Dhoom Dhaam. In 2025 he also took part in the series Saare Jahan Se Accha: The Silent Guardians, which tells stories of people who protect India without public notice.

Recognition

Wrong Side Raju, in which he played the lead, received the National Film Award for Best Gujarati Film. His portrayal of Harshad Mehta in Scam 1992 was widely praised.

Personal life

Gandhi is married to the actress Bhamini Oza, and the couple have a daughter.
